Sri Lankan HR activist expressed solidarity with people of Bangladesh

London, 7 August- Former lawyer and human rights activist in Sri Lanka Mr Sumanasena Athuraliyage joined Bangladeshi people at Altab Ali Park on 05 August 2024 to celebrate the victory of the democratic revolution in Bangladesh.

He said to the new generation of Bangladesh that they, the students, had shown how to achieve a revolution in less than one month, whereas it took almost one year in Sri Lanka and years in Russia and Cuba.

He also said that Sheikh Hasina and her government used arms against humans to kill them, but she had to flee through the back door.

He encouraged the new generation of students to take over power and build a new Bangladesh for their citizens.

Mr Athuraliyage is currently a practicing lawyer in London, UK. He had to flee the country with the help of Amnesty International in the UK. At present he is a strong supporter of the political party by the name of NPP – National People’s Power or Jathika Jana Balawegaya in Sri Lanka.

The victory celebration was organised by Bangladeshi Students Association (BSA), UK.
